Animais ameaçados de extinção: Javan Rhinoceros

 Javan Rhinoceros is the rarest rhinoceros.


The Javan Rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) is one of the most endangered mammals in the planet. It is estimated that there are only 50 of this individuals in the world. The Javan Rhinoceros is usually a lonely animal and is rarely seen in groups, his natural habitat are the tropical florests.
Originally, was distributed in the islands: Java and Sumatra, and through Southeast Asia to India, to west, and to China, in North. Around 150 years ago, his distribution was already reduced to three separeted populations. Currently it is found only in Ujung Kulon's National Park and in Java's island, Indonésia. The population in Cat Tien's National Park, in Vietnam, was extint in 2010.

The Javan Rhinoceros is an herbivore animal and feeds himself with diferents species of plants, especially its tender branches, shoots, new leaves and fallen fruits. The biggest part of the plants that make up the diet of this specie grows in sunny areas. It is estimated that it eat about 50kg of food per day.

Critically in danger (IUCN 2008)
